In this video I finally start my How to Make Video Games tutorial series. I’m going to start off with Pong so that we can completely understand the Unity 5.6 interface, Sprites, Scenes, Physics, Keyboard Input, Collision Detection, Sound Effects, User Interfaces, Splash Screens, and so much more.

I already have games based on Space Invaders, Asteroids, Pac Man, Mario, Tetris, etc. ready to go. I also plan on making 2D Tower Defense and other popular games over the course of this series. After I finish up with 2D I’ll then start making 3D games. It should be a ton of fun.

  1. In 3 videos we create the game Pong. We'll learn about Collision Detection, Animation, AI Controlled Competitors, Physics, Keyboard Input, Unity User Interfaces, Splash Screens, Sound Effects, Background Music, Build Settings and more. After Pong I'll then make Space Invaders.

  2. I have been developing since 2000 but only recently began learning game development with Unity. I have watched many of your videos and I have to say that they are more in-depth and explanatory than the paid courses. Very nice.

  3. Hello I was following your video to 7:24 and my unity program in the file settings does not have to option for new, so I can make files in the sprite folders can someone tell me what should I do to get these options in my file settings please? The file setting gives other options like create New scenes, save scenes, and save project but Im not getting anything options to create new files like what the video is showing. Im new to this program.

    My heart leaps up when I behold
    A teacher in the youtube:
    So was it when my study began;
    So is it now I am a man;
    So be it when I shall grow old,
    Or let me die!
    you are great father of the Man;
    And I could wish my days to be
    Bound each to each by your piety.
    😀

  5. While waiting on the new Zelda tutorial, decided to go back and learn the basics 😀 really looking forward to making some cool projects. Hopefully they are also helpful when applying for college 😛

  6. Great tutorial! When I get to the point of making the script, I double click the script file and monodevelop gives me the error "Could not load project 'Pong.csproj' with unknown item type'. It allows me to type in all the code and add the script to the paddle object but the project won't compile.

  7. Really exciting series. I completed the pong game, and I look forward to trying the rest.
    There is a game I remember from years ago. It's called 'Dig Dug' and it's similar to 'Boulder Dash'. You dig for gold coins, diamonds, or whatever and avoid rock and other enemies. I think it would make a good tutorial, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to make. Cheers!
